QISP Qualification

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Industrial General Permit Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP). QISP qualifications are good for two years, after which you must renew your qualification. Your name, QISP certificate number, and expiration date will be posted for public reference on the QISP Lookup Tool. You can choose to make your contact information available as well. You are responsible for keeping your contact information current. If you change jobs, move to a new address, or change your email address, be sure to update your listing.

Steps To Qualification

CASQA is partnering with the Office of Water Programs at Sacramento State (OWP) to administer the IGP QISP Training Program. To access the program follow these steps:

  1. Log in at www.owp.csus.edu
  2. Click 'Stormwater Certificates'
  3. Click 'IGP QISP'

The following steps must be completed in order:

1. Register to take the QISP exam.

Register at the Water Programs at Sacramento State (OWP) website and pay the $475 fee (good for 2 years). This also provides you with access to your online account.

2. Complete 16 hours of online training

Training consists of videos, quizzes, and reading assignments. You may take the self-assessment quizzes as often as you like. Quiz grades do not affect your completion of the training. However, you do need to understand the material presented in the online training to pass the exams.

3. Pass the midterm online exam

You have two attempts to pass the 35-question midterm online exam with a grade of 70% or higher. The online exam must be completed in a single two-hour session.

4. Complete the one-day, in-person training with an IGP ToR

After passing the midterm online exam,register for the in-person ToR training via the class calendar at www.owp.csus.edu. A public version of the calendar is available at https://www.owp.csus.edu/stormwater-training/igp/calendar/.

5. Pass the final online exam

You have two attempts to pass the 70-question final online exam with a grade of 70% or higher. The online exam must be completed in a single four-hour session.

Additional Qualification Option for CBPELSG Licensed Training Program Only

California licensed professional civil, industrial, chemical, and mechanical engineers and geologists have licenses that have professional overlap with topics in the Industrial General Permit. The California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (CBPELSG) provides the licensure and regulation of professional civil, industrial, chemical, and mechanical engineers and professional geologists in California. The State Water Board developed a specialized self-guided State Water Board-sponsored registration and training program specifically for these CBPELSG licensed engineers and geologists in good standing with CBPELSG. To complete the training and self-certification, create an account on the Water Programs at Sacramento State website with these steps:

  1. Log in at www.owp.csus.edu
  2. Click 'Stormwater Certificates'
  3. Click 'IGP CBPELSG'
